I’m sure you’ve heard it before - someone claiming to be “self-made.” How so and so came from nothing and without one other person's influence, support, or guidance. What I like to call this is a load of BS. Today I uncover the self-made myth and the truth about personal growth.

In this post, you’ll learn about the truth to growing in any area of your life. Whether you want to be a fitness fanatic or money mogul - the growth is always similar. I used to follow an influencer who I’m choosing not to name. They always did cool things like travel, drive awesome cars and bikes, hang around with hot girls, and basically any other cliche thing an influencer can do.

I would get motivated and inspired by their lifestyle and wealth. The things he achieved at such a young age seemed to amaze me. Yet, in basically all of his posts, he claimed to be “self-made.”

The longer I’ve been alive the more I’ve failed, succeeded, and learned. I’ve learned time and time again that no one is self-made. This statement is completely false. I don’t care if you think it’s you because it’s not.

In every area, I’ve experienced success in my life it has ALWAYS been because of a  team effort. People are uplifted, influenced, guided, held accountable, and mentored by those who have done it before them.

If you want to take away anything from this post it's this - always seek out to find someone that has already achieved what you want to in that specific area. This mentor will be invaluable to learning and fast-tracking you on your own way to success.

What Moving Away Taught Me

I moved across the country at age 18. I decided I want to chase passion and adventure and didn’t want anyone to stop me. The truth is there is absolutely no way I could have pulled this off alone.

My parents were (and still are) huge supporters of me doing what I want and what I love. Without their support, ideas, experience, and more - I wouldn’t have been able to pull this move off.

I was simply too young and inexperienced to figure out all of the metrics and moving parts involved with the task.

What The Gym Has Taught Me

I’ve trained for over 15 + years at the gym and competed for 5 years in 7 different shows. I was able to bring my body (and mind) to a highly elite level of shape and drive. Was this a direct result of my own hard work? No.

While yes, it was me waking up at 5:00 a.m. to do cardio, going back to the gym at 7:00 p.m. to train, eating 6-7 meals a day, ensuring I drank enough water, and so on. The people I surrounded myself with - the experts that allowed me to get to a high level.

I worked with a fitness coach/nutritionist, Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist, posing coach, chiropractor, and other highly experienced fitness professionals. I had a team supporting me and allowing me to level up to something that I wouldn’t be able to do on my own.

What Investing Has Taught Me

I met a guy years ago at the gym (go figure) who was into wealth building and investing. We became great friends over the years and he taught me so much about his craft - the craft of making your money work for you.

I knew little about investing or growing my money at the time. Without someone to lead me down the right path, it would have taken me 10 times longer or more to figure it out. We would go for lunches, dinners, and coffee and I’d listen to what he would say about the markets and making money.

These meetings had a huge impact on me investing my own money and the basic understanding that without risk there is no reward - and the key is to take calculated risks. Risks where the pros outweigh the cons in the end - leading to more wins.

Are you beginning to see a similar outcome to these 3 completely different situations in my life?

No matter what you’re trying to do and achieve - the path towards getting it is so similar. Find someone who’s an expert, someone that has already done and accomplished what you’re looking to do, a team of people even to lift you up to a level you never even dreamed of before.

There are so many people I meet day after day that have this fear of investing money in themselves or a certain area in order to gain value or 10 X their results. The truth about self-made is that it’s fake.

You don’t want to be self-made because guess where it gets you? Working a 9-5 for 40 + years at a job you hate, commuting 3 hours a day to and from a house you can’t afford…

Does this sound like your life or a lot of the people around you? If you are 100% satisfied with your life and don’t want to improve by even 1% then don’t listen to this post and continue what you’ve done for the rest of your life.

On the other hand, if you are starting to see and understand the value and gain from surrounding yourself with the right environment - keep reading.

Personal Growth Doesn’t Happen Overnight

Changing your habits, setting detailed goals, losing 10lbs, feeling great about yourself, and creating wealth all take time. Now, the amount of time they take is really up to you.

If you want to take things slow do a few days here and there and fall off the wagon again - do it yourself. Be self-made.

If you want to take life seriously (at times) but have more fun than you ever thought possible find your team. Craft a world-class environment around you. Get help and don’t be afraid to spend money to invest in YOU.
