Are you interested in living the life of a real-life rockstar also called today’s entrepreneur? Entrepreneurs seem to have it all these days, time, freedom, money, wealth, and cool lifestyles. The younger generation is being shaped to want to become an entrepreneur and the Millenials want to know how to transition from a normal job to something of their own.

I’ve spoken with countless people over the past 6 months who constantly tell me, “Chris I want to do that! I want to be an entrepreneur, I want to have my own thing.”

But, none of them do it.

Where do I come from on the subject and why am I telling you this? Because I’m doing it. And I think it’s safe to say that I know how to make transitions as I’ve done it myself.

Today, I’m getting into 5 different reasons why you may be scared to take the blind leap into the deep depths of entrepreneurship once and for all.

If you’re currently working a day job and want to transition to owning your own business, are a young professional looking to find out more about entrepreneurship, or someone who knows one day they will work for themselves, this post is for you.

Here’s the list:

-You’re Scared to Start

-You’re Scared to Take Risks

-You’re Scared of Being Judged

-You’re Scared of Change

-You’re Scared of Failure

Reason # 1 - You’re Scared to Start

Oh but Chris! You might say, now is not a good time! The economy is on the brink of a collapse, we’re entering a recession, I’m too young, I’m too old, It’s October, It’s March, It’s Wednesday, It’s whatever…

I promise you one thing - you will always be able to come up with reasons WHY NOT to start. I can also promise you that there is ALWAYS stuff going on.

You’re always busy, I’m always busy, and your parents, coworkers, and friends are always busy.

There is NEVER a PERFECT time to start. Write this down.

Most people fail to create change to become an entrepreneur because they never even start.

It’s sad.

Don’t get me wrong, I used to tell myself the same lies.

Next year I’ll have more money, and I’ll be in a better position in the future, I can’t handle the pressure right now.

If you don’t start you will fail - guaranteed.

Here are 3 ways to start TODAY:

-Stop talking about it and take action (something small).

-Make a list of the first 3 things you can do immediately.

-Set a deadline with hard targets (that’s close).

You can do this, but you need to start today.

Reason # 2 - You’re Scared to Take Risks

Here are the facts… Every entrepreneur must take risks.

And if you aren’t willing to take any risks then you’re not cut out for this.

Being an entrepreneur means thinking outside the box. It means to clear your own path and NOT follow the pack.

People who create and revolutionize the world are risk takers - so become one.

Taking risks is part of the person you need to become.

Let’s look at a quick example:

The average person is too scared to invest in the stock market because it’s (risky). What happens if I lose all of my money? They may say it’s gambling, or only for people who have money already.

So what do they do? They don’t invest. They squeeze every last penny they have and don’t put their money to work. Thus, they won’t earn any money on top of it.

Let’s compare this average person to a young entrepreneur who we’ll assume is open to risk and rewards. They invest as much as they can each month into the stock market (and they have been for years).

They understand the power of compounding and having their money work for them. After several years of investing they turn their initial $10,000 investment into $15,000. The more they continue to invest, and for the longer duration the more they will earn.

As you can see from the above example, the two people have different takes on risk, but one is much more likely to come out on top and live a better life. The other is likely to struggle for years and years.

If you want to be an entrepreneur you need to understand the fundamentals of risk and risk management.

Yes, you could lose it all, and yes it might not work out, but if you believe in yourself and what you offer, I bet you’ll find a way.

Accept risk as part of the game.

Reason # 3 - You’re Scared of Being Judged

Now, this is a big one. Many people are scared to make the transition to entrepreneurship because they’re scared of being judged.

“What will my family think of me and say? None of my friends are entrepreneurs, or the people who have tried before me have failed and quit.”

If you want to be an entrepreneur you need to focus on yourself and your goals and stay in your lane.

Yes, there are people that will judge you, and there are people that don’t think you will succeed. So what? Who cares?

There will always be people talking behind your back, but there are also people rooting for you!

If you’re constantly obsessed about what others think of you and your journey and can be sure you will fail.

Most people are so busy doing their own thing, living their own lives that they don’t even notice when you’re doing something different.

You don’t need to tell everyone everything. In fact, before I made a major transition I kept my mouth shut. I didn’t tell my work, family, or many friends.

Everything was fully under wraps, why you might ask?

Because I didn’t want to hear any backlash. I didn’t want to hear people doubting me or telling me “why it was a bad idea.” I knew that I needed to focus and put my ideas into action, and believe in myself.

Reason # 4 - You’re Scared of Change

How long have you been at your current job? How long have you been doing the SAME thing?

We are comfortable with routines, with patterns, and with the same of the same. Every day.

I’ll be the first to admit it, change is hard.

It doesn’t matter if you want to change the time you want to wake up each morning, the amount of money to save each month, or a full career transition - it’s going to take time, practice, and patience and will be difficult to execute.

That’s why I always recommend surrounding yourself with the right people, a positive group (or even a person) that holds you accountable for what you do.

If you can become close with some people that are in a similar change, or have experienced it before, you are likely to stay the course.

It’s easy to fall back into old habits, so if you want to create and shape new ones you need to do new things.

While change is hard, I think regret will be much harder on you over time.

Regret happens when you decide not to make a change when you give up or quit.

If entrepreneurship is really what you want, then you don’t quit or give up.

You keep going, shifting, changing, adjusting, until you figure it out.

Here are 2 tips to create change:

-Start small, only change 1-2 minor things at a time

-Stop trying to do it all, all the time. Slow consistent results are what works.

Reason # 5 - You’re Scared of Failure

Finally, the one most of you may have been thinking about this entire time - you’re scared to become an entrepreneur because you don’t want to fail.

While failure sounds bad and has a negative aura around it, it’s not all that bad.

Failure is actually a good thing. Because if you’re failing, your trying, and if you’re trying you’re like learning.

Now all you need to do is make an adjustment, and try again in a different way, shape, or form.

Failure is the gateway to entrepreneurship. And if you haven’t failed then you aren’t trying hard enough. While failure always seems bad I want you to flip the script.

If you decide to never give up or give in, are you really a failure?

Yes, you can have certain projects, businesses, or meetings that fail, but does that make you a failure? I don’t think so.

If you want to be an entrepreneur you must believe in yourself and your cause more than anyone else. It doesn’t matter if 99 people say no or call you crazy, all it could take is that one yes, that one connection, to change it all.

Being an entrepreneur is all but a dream for most.

Some try, and most fail, but that doesn’t need to be your story.
