Have you ever sat and thought about what the REAL difference is between those who lead and those who follow? True leaders are people who have a vision and set their sights on even bigger and better things to come. True leaders are results-driven and have a passion to get important things done.

Today I want to dive into 3 traits that make up a leader's top qualities. By understanding these qualities you can use them to your advantage to become an even better leader yourself!

Whether you want to become a supervisor/manager at your current workplace or become the next CEO of a Fortune 500 company, the key traits to get there and be successful at it will be similar. Let's get right into my top 3 traits of a leader!

The Top 3 Traits of Leaders

Goal Oriented

People who lead are goal-oriented, this means that they are good at setting certain milestones they want to hit and track this progress along the way. Every leader knows that the only way to lead others is to be structured and goal-oriented themselves - to lead the pack.

Let's say for example that you want to lead a team of people to sell a certain amount of software packages to other businesses. You would want to know how many your team would need to sell each day, week, and month. How many client leads they would need to contact and how many would convert to a sale. These key metrics would be tracked and give the necessary information to grow further and progress more than the previous week, month, and year.

Goals are the bread and butter of production and achieving more in one's life. Leaders know that goals help them get closer to what they're aiming at. Goals can help transform your life in a matter of years.

Take Responsibility

Real leaders take FULL responsibility for their actions and the actions of their team. Leaders own up and take responsibility not only for praise but for doing something wrong and taking the blame.

Remember, a leader is always in charge and is responsible for everyone they look after. If people are doing things wrong and incorrectly it's up to the leader to take responsibility, figure out what's going on and fix it.

Have you ever worked somewhere where someone clearly messes up and then explains how it wasn't their fault because of X? I seem to hear this one all of the time... If you can't take responsibility for ALL of you're actions you will never be a real leader - so please stop making excuses!

While taking responsibility for messing up can be tough, I promise you it will make you feel better in the end. I've made it a good habit to always take responsibility for what I do, no matter what the outcome is. If I mess up, I say I messed up and learn from my mistake. This is the only way you will be able to grow and achieve more in any given field. Own up to your actions - no matter what the outcome is.

Think Differently

How many people do you know and associate with that watch the news? How many of these people are in a similar situation to you? Payscale, lifestyle, housing, friends, etc. Take some time now to think about this.

If you want to be a leader you need to think differently than everyone else. The vast majority of people are followers - blue-collar workers. Making other people rich while they slave away at 40+ hour work weeks to "make a living".

One person I look up to always tells me to "think outside the box". Really think about how you can do something different from everybody else. Leaders who think outside the box not only come up with BIG ideas but are usually rewarded handsomely for them as well.

Leaders don't let the past ways and ideas determine their future. They create it with their thoughts and don't limit themselves in any way. The people you surround yourself with often lead to your current beliefs and values in life. If these people have limiting beliefs on money, work, and life it can be difficult for you to see past this.

Try to surround yourself with others who are positive and uplifting. People who are in your corner and want you to win! Try and find someone who is at the next level which you want to be at. By hanging out with someone like this it will help elevate you to that next level.

Now, are you willing to use these 3 traits to become a better leader?

Bonus Trait

Never Stop Learning

Leaders have a hunger to learn each and every day. They are always open to learning something new and know that no one knows everything. Learning is a huge part of growing and if you want to lead you to need to keep growing day after day.

Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. Learning through books, courses, YouTube, seminars, schooling, or mentors will help you to keep growing and keep winning. Leaders know there is always more to learn and always time to invest in themselves.

I hope this post helped you learn more about what traits make up the top leaders of today! Ensure you are goal-oriented, take responsibility for your actions (whether good or bad), think outside the box, and never stop investing in yourself.
